Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI Images Store Your Prompt: How to Remove It

November 2, 2026 · By Prakhar Gupta

If you generate images with a local tool such as Stable Diffusion or ComfyUI, the picture you share can quietly contain the instructions that made it. Anyone who opens the file in the right viewer can read them.

What gets stored

PNG files can hold text in chunks named tEXt, iTXt and zTXt. Popular tools use them to save generation details:

  • The positive and negative prompt.
  • The seed, sampler, steps and CFG scale.
  • The model name and sometimes the model hash.
  • In ComfyUI, an entire workflow saved as JSON, so others can rebuild your setup.

Why you might want it gone

  • Your prompt may be the valuable part of your work.
  • A workflow can show custom files, folders or names from your computer.
  • Platforms may treat generator text as an AI marker.
  • A smaller file is faster to send.

Remove it

  1. Open the AI Label Remover.
  2. Drop your PNG. The page lists the text chunks it finds and recognises common tools by name.
  3. Download the cleaned PNG. The picture is unchanged, because only the text chunks are dropped.

The cleaning happens in your browser, so your prompts are never sent to a server. That matters when the prompt is the part you want to protect.

Keep a private copy

If you want to reuse the settings later, keep the original file in a private folder and share only the cleaned copy. Check the result by dropping the cleaned file back in. For other formats and the technical background, see Understanding C2PA Metadata, XMP packets, and Image Provenance.
